Very nice Omakase place. The courses were delicious and filling, the service was very good. The restaurant does serve a few dishes together at one go (the dishes are not always one by one), this created a very beautiful serving plate (as in the photos). I’ve been there twice and would consider to go again.
The promotion deal at $99++ is worth it (overall Comes to about $129, per person)
Food was better than what I had 3 years ago. It is better and cheaper now. Fantastic. I had the $99 omakase for early birds at 5.30pm on a Saturday. House pour sake was $8.90 per glass. The A5 Wagyu in soy milk and the fish and prawn karaage were standouts. Great value all in all. We left there full even though I opted for the small rice for the overflowing ikura rice bowl.(they are moving to Carpenter Street soon)
Went for a promo just for the nostalgic feel of the overflowing salmon roe rice bowl experience I had a decade ago in Japan. The salmon roe is fresh, perfectly seasoned and I enjoyed every 101 bits of it. Overall value for money. Also like e size of the sushi great for ladies (one bite without the awkward chewing). Tip: book for counter seating and arrive earlier for the better seats. Hardworking n friendly crews so kudos for creating a casual, pleasant and affordable omakase experience.
At promotional price of 99, it’s very worth it for the Omakase.
What was unique was the wagyu beef sukiyaki in soy milk. Goes quite well together surprisingly
🍜 Food wise: Food was extremely fresh! Favourite was the A5 wagyu with soy milk. It was absolutely amazing. Seafood was really fresh, I think I could taste the ocean 😜 jokes aside seafood was really fresh! They were very generous with the overflowing salmon roe too!
✨ Ambience wise: Omakase experience.
🤵🏻 Service wise: Chef and server was super friendly. Great experience. Every dish will be explained to you beforehand.
💵 Price wise: $99+ top up $50 for premium menu. Book before 1730 for promotion!
Worth it!
First experience with Omakase. Went for top-up version of the promotional offer. Overall food quality is good with plenty of variation provided, from sashimi, nigri sushi to tempura and wagyu beef soya pot. Definitely recommended if you're looking for affordable omakase with quality. Area of improvement - tempura & nigri sushi
Me and my girlfriend went to kyuu on 24th may, 5.30pm. We made the booking on the day itself seeing that it was my off-day and she ended work early.
For the promotion, there is a 2 hour time limit to finish the course. This wasn’t an issue for us but might be something you might want to consider, as some might want to take more time to enjoy the special experience that is omakase. The menu is also slightly different from the one online. Will attach it here.
We were served chawamushi as part of the starter. My girlfriend’s chawamushi had a very sour taste to it as opposed to mine which tasted fine. We pointed this out to the chef and he tried it too. After which, he approached us and apologised, saying that there was too much vinegar in the egg, and assured us that it was fresh.
He did not offer to replace the chawamushi on the spot. Neither was there a replacement served.
Aside from that, the rest of the course went well.
The food at Kyuu was good overall, but the tempura courses were not exceptionally great. The miso soup was extremely salty though.
The sushi and the rolls were exceptionally well made and were different from what you could find at other “standard” japanese restaurant establishments.
The ikura rice and ice cream was great as well.
We were very full after the meal, and even struggled to finish the last course.
Total bill was $359.90 for 2 pax (upgrade menu)
Booked for the $99 (promo price, UP$129) spring set.
love ❤️ it.
highly recommended to go.
the sushi rice portion was just nice, small enough to not get bloated but enough to compliment the fish.
for the overflowing ikura , please let it overflow and have a bit of fun. I've seen a few tables that are shy and didn't overflow. I felt they missed out on some fun. do choose medium bowl, only choose large if you can eat a lot.
the unagi sushi was really good. giant pieces of unagi and again, small amount of rice.
the dishes in every course taste wonderful and good play of flavours.
I would say at this price point and at the level of quality that they are offering, is unbelievable. can't wait for menu change.
